I’ve been in the process of designing a blog for my sister and spent Saturday shooting some of her food creations for the blog (still in the design process). While I shot the process and the result, I figured I would put up a few of the final treats.

This will become a part of her logo. It is made from sugar.

It seems that food photography always tries to make everything look nice and clean and in it's place; in reality, the kitchen it was made in is quite the opposite.

Hockey: Women’s OUA Championship

Saturday's OUA final game was game two of a three game series for the women's teams. Guelph was trailing 1-0 in the series and needed to win this game to avoid ending their season.

Laurier Golden Hawks goalie, Knox, tries to stop a stray puck to no avail.

The arena was full of supporters from both teams, however this bunch of Gryphons fans were by far the loudest.

With time running out, Guelph called a timeout to strategize how to execute a one goal come-back

Despite their best efforts, the Gryphons lost 2-1 to the Golden Hawks to repeat last years standings.

The result means that the Golden Hawks gold medal streak is at seven at the OUAs. They will go on to the CIS championships at StFX.

Snow

Walking up by Guelph Lake on Saturday with the snow falling and an eerie whisper of the trees reminded me of the start of a movie. It seemed like at any second, a bunch of dogs would come around the corner, sled in tow. Alas, none of that happened, but every corner held the mystery of what was beyond it.

Hockey: Women’s OUA semi-final

This past Saturday was a fairly busy one with the Gryphon’s women’s hockey semi-final game. The win against Queen’s pushed them into the OUA finals.

The Gryphon's went on to win the OUA semi-final match with their 5-2 win and will move on to the OUA finals where they will take on the Laurier Goldenhawks

Figure Skating: OUA Championships

Yesterday morning I spent the morning shooting some of the OUA figure skating championships at RIM Park in Waterloo. I was there for a little over four hours and got to shoot four events (Sr. and Jr. Silver Similar Dance, Gold Free skate and Short Program). While I don’t understand the semantics of the event names, I did figure out that the silver similar dance are pairs and the latter two are individual.

I have never watched a figure skating competition other than on TV, so I had no idea what to expect from the event as a whole, but can say it was definitely pretty cool. The stands were full of supporters divided by university, cheering on their respective skaters. In fact, there were times where the cheering rivals some hockey games I have shot.

For some reason the skaters in the Jr. Silver Similar Dance event did not have their names announced (nor are they on the results site), so I only know what school they are from (even when names were announced, it was a bit of a mission to understand what was being said). I apologize ahead of time for any poor captions as a result.

This will probably be my only post this week, but look out for nordic ski shots next week as I am shooting the OUA championship this Saturday.

Western's Cara Horan & Julia Horan were part of a fourway tie with Toronto and Waterloo in the Sr. Silver Similar Dance event.

Waterloo skaters compete in the Jr Silver Similar Dance event. They would go on to receive third place in the event.

Hillside Inside 2010

Saturday was Hillside Inside here in Guelph which lead to a nice long day of shooting (3pm until about 12:30am). The festival is the winter version of the summer festival held every year. This is the third year Hillside Inside has gone on and hopefully won’t be the last. With eleven acts on two stages, there was something for everyone at the festival.

I will save you reading too much and just caption the photos with the band names.
